How to print shipping labels on a Zebra printer (USPS, UPS, FedEx)

If you ship products in the United States, a Zebra thermal printer with 4×6 labels is the standard way to print shipping labels at volume. This guide covers the full path: hardware, free software, Browser Print, and carrier-specific workflows for USPS, UPS, FedEx, Shopify, and Amazon.

Step-by-step: first shipping label on Zebra

1. Load 4×6 labels

Open the printer, insert a 4×6 direct-thermal roll, close the door, press Feed until a full label advances cleanly. Model guides: ZD420, ZD421, GK420d.

2. Install Zebra Browser Print

3. Open free label software

Go to app.mylabelmaker.com — free browser designer, no account. Set artboard to 4 × 6 and DPI to match your printer (usually 203).

4. Design or import ship-to data

Either:

Single label: type recipient address + tracking barcode manually
Batch: export orders CSV → map {{name}}, {{address1}}, {{city}}, {{state}}, {{zip}}, {{tracking}} → print all rows

5. Print and stick

Select the Zebra in the printer menu, print, apply the label to a flat package face. Avoid seams and curved edges that warp barcodes.

PDF labels vs native ZPL

Many platforms download a PDF. You can print that PDF to a Zebra if the printer is installed as a Windows/Mac printer and scaled to 4×6 — but scaling issues are common.
