DYMO label software in the browser

DYMO label software usually means an install and an account. You can skip both for the dies on this page. Load the roll, open the matching part number, and print from the computer that already sees the LabelWriter. A 450 or 550 takes the narrow dies. A 4 inch model takes 1744907 and the other wide rolls. Sending a 4x6 design to a 30252 roll will not scale itself into an address. It will clip.

The comparison with DYMO Connect is DYMO label software. Spreadsheet addresses are print labels from Excel. The size chart for every brand is the label size guide.

How to make a DYMO label

Read the part number on the roll before you touch the art. 30252 is the everyday address die. 30334 is a small barcode. 99010 is another address roll. 30256 is a wide shipping label, and it is not a 450 job.

  1. Open the DYMO 30252 address label. No signup. If the box says a different number, use that card above so the canvas matches the die.
  2. Type one address, or print labels from Excel or a CSV when you have a list. One person per row. Name, street, city, and postcode belong in separate columns.
  3. On a barcode die such as 30334, put the value under the bars and leave a quiet zone. Do not shrink a 4 x 6 ship-to onto a 30252. It will clip, not scale itself into an address.
  4. Print from this computer. In the print dialog, pick the LabelWriter and the same part number you loaded. Leave scaling off. You do not install DYMO Connect to lay out the words.
  5. Print one label and hold it on the roll. If the type is cut off, the driver is on the wrong die. Fix that before you print the list.

Printer setup

DYMO's LabelWriter comparison lists a 2.4 inch maximum print width on the 550, the 550 Turbo, the 450 Twin Turbo, and the 450 Duo. The 450 and the 450 Turbo are the same narrow class. None of those is a 4 inch printer. Do not put a 30256, or any other 4 inch roll, in a 450 and expect the driver to squeeze it.

The 4XL is the wide one. DYMO's 4XL sheet lists print up to 4.16 inches wide at 300 dpi, including 4 x 6 shipping labels, and it marks 30256 as a 4XL label. The 5XL is the other wide model on the current comparison: a 4 inch maximum print width, and DYMO shows 4 x 6 shipping on that printer. A 30252 address roll (about 1 1/8 by 3 1/2 inches) is the narrow die. A 450, 450 Turbo, 550, 550 Turbo, 5XL, or 4XL can take that size. A 1744907 4 x 6 is a different die and wants the wide printer.

The 550 series is stricter about the roll. DYMO's help page says the LabelWriter 5 generation only accepts genuine DYMO labels, and Automatic Label Recognition tells the software the size and how many labels are left. The 450 series does not do that recognition. Third-party rolls that a 450 tolerated can be rejected by a 550, 550 Turbo, or 5XL.

This page is a DYMO Connect alternative for the layout. Connect is still DYMO's app if you want their address book. Designing here does not install Connect, and it does not skip the part number in the driver.

What is a free DYMO label maker?

A free DYMO label maker here is the browser. Open the part number on your roll, edit the lines, and print from this computer. No signup. Excel and CSV both work when each row is a different label.

Will a LabelWriter 450 print a 4 inch label?

No. The 450, 450 Turbo, 550, and 550 Turbo are about 2.4 inches wide. A wide label such as 30256 needs a 4XL. Sending a 4 x 6 design to a 30252 roll clips the label. It does not shrink to fit.

What does the 550 series do that a 450 does not?

The 550, 550 Turbo, and 5XL use Automatic Label Recognition and only accept genuine DYMO rolls. DYMO's comparison chart shows that recognition on the 550 series, not on the 450 series.

Which template is 30252?

30252 is the address label, about 1 1/8 by 3 1/2 inches, commonly 350 on a roll. 30334 is the small barcode die. 99010 is another address roll. Match the number on the box, not a photo of a different LabelWriter.

Do I need DYMO Connect?

Not to design the label. Lay it out here, then print from this computer with the LabelWriter driver you already use. This page does not install DYMO Connect.

Can I print DYMO labels from Excel?

Yes. One row per label, with the name and the address in their own columns. Import the sheet or a CSV, proof one long name, and print. A name that fits on screen can still clip if the driver is set to the wrong die.
