Sequential numbered labels

Good to know: One run prints up to 500 numbers. Print again for the next set. A Zebra printer moves the start number forward after the job sends. Print from this computer leaves the start number where you set it, so you can reprint.

How to print sequential numbered labels

  1. Open https://app.mylabelmaker.com. No signup.
  2. Set the label size. Asset tags are often 2 x 1. Raffle tickets can be larger.
  3. Open Numbering on the right. Set Start, Step, and Digits. Digits 3 prints 001. Digits 4 prints 0001.
  4. Set Copies to how many labels you need, up to 500. Click Add number. That places the number on the label.
  5. Look at the first label and the next one so you see 001, then 002. Then print.

Asset tags for a stack of laptops do not need a sheet of names. They need AT-0001 through AT-0040. Type AT- on the label, then click Add number. The number follows your prefix. Start at 1, Step 1, Digits 4, Copies 40.

Start, step, and digits

Start is the first number. Step is how much it climbs. Digits is the width, so 7 becomes 007 when digits is 3. You can start at 500 if the last tag on the shelf was 499.

Put the number on a barcode too. Select the barcode, then Add number, and the bars carry the same sequence as the text. A person can read AT-0042 and a scanner can read it.

When the numbers already live in a sheet

Load Excel, CSV, or a published Google Sheet and the numbers follow the rows, one per row. You do not also set Copies for that run. The sheet is the count.

If you only needed 001, 002, 003 and you have no list, leave the spreadsheet out and use Copies. The longer blog version is print labels numbered 001, 002, 003.

How do I make sequential numbered labels?

How do I get 001 instead of 1?
