Zebra print too light or faded
Your Zebra print is too light when the bars look grey and a scanner shrugs. Raise darkness one step, slow the speed, clean the printhead, and keep barcodes solid black. Then print one test from the free label maker.

Raise darkness and slow the speed
- Open https://app.mylabelmaker.com. No signup.
- Increase darkness / density one step at a time on the printer.
- Reduce print speed. Slower means more heat per inch, so the black lands darker.
- Print a solid black bar as a test. If it is still pale at max darkness, the media or the head is the problem.
Check the media and ribbon
- Direct thermal stock that sat in heat or sun loses sensitivity. Try a fresh sealed roll.
- Thermal transfer without a ribbon (or the ribbon flipped) prints blank or light. See blank labels.
- Cheap off-spec stock may never reach a dark black. That is the roll, not the app.
Clean the printhead
Dust and adhesive crumbs leave white speckles and light patches. Power off, let the head cool, then wipe the element line with isopropyl on a lint-free swab. Details: dirty printhead guide.
Designs that wash out
- Semi-transparent PNGs
- Grey text on grey backgrounds
- A PDF rasterized at low quality, then printed
Rebuild the barcodes and ship-to text in the free label maker at the printer's DPI so they stay solid black. If a scan still fails: barcode not scanning.
If one horizontal stripe is always light, a printhead element may be dead. Cleaning will not bring that stripe back.
