Print variable data labels from Excel

Yes. You can print unique labels from an Excel file without ZebraDesigner Pro. Design the label once, put {{column}} where the value should change, upload the .xlsx, preview a row, then print. The sheet stays on this computer.

ZebraDesigner variable data is a pain. One field works, the next fails, and Pro wants a database for a plain spreadsheet. If the names and SKUs already live in Excel or Google Sheets, you do not need that wizard.

How to print variable data labels from Excel

1. Open https://app.mylabelmaker.com. No signup.
2. Set the label size to the stock in the printer. Add text, a barcode, or a QR. Type {{column}} where the value should change, matching the header in row 1 of your sheet (for example {{sku}} or {{serial}}). The Variables rail can drop the name in for you.
3. Open Variables. On Upload, choose your Excel file (.xlsx, .xls, or .xlsm). You do not convert it to CSV. If the workbook has more than one sheet, each non-empty sheet shows as its own list so you can drop the ones you do not need.
4. Step through the first, middle, and last rows under the canvas. Scan the first barcode before you send a pile.
5. Print. A Zebra uses Browser Print. No Zebra yet: print from this computer, or download PNG or PDF.

Set up the sheet so one row is one label

Row 1 is headers. Each row under that becomes one label. Keep barcode columns as Text in Excel so leading zeros do not disappear.

Simple headers work best: sku, serial, qty, lot, exp. Skip spaces if you can. Do not put two meanings in one column. Extra columns are fine. They are ignored unless you put that name on the label.

Big files

For a few thousand rows, print in chunks (200 to 500), let the printer catch up, then send the next chunk. That is easier to restart after a jam than one giant job. The file is read in this browser. It is not uploaded to a cloud label service.

Try two days on the free app with the same workbook. Time to first label, scan fails, minutes to train a new hire. Most small shops find that ends the purchase debate. RFID, SAP, and audited approval still belong in Pro or BarTender.

Do I have to save the Excel file as CSV?

No. Upload the .xlsx (or .xls / .xlsm) in Variables. CSV is optional if that is already what you have.
