Zebra barcode labels not scanning
A thermal barcode fails for three reasons: wrong DPI, no quiet zone (or too small), or it's a scaled image instead of a native barcode. Office apps and ZebraDesigner trials cause the image problem constantly. Open the free label maker, insert a real barcode, match 203 or 300 DPI, print one test, scan it.
1. Match printer DPI
Designing at 203 while the head is 300 (or reverse) softens bar edges. Scanner sees grey mush.

2. Don't paste a screenshot barcode
Resizing a PNG in Word, Canva, or a bad ZebraDesigner export changes module width. Bars become illegal for the symbology.

3. Quiet zones and size
- Leave clear white space left and right of 1D barcodes
- Do not crush a UPC into a 0.5" wide sticker unless the scanner is forgiving
- Human-readable text under the bars helps when scan fails
4. Darkness and printhead
Too light → thin bars disappear. Too dark → bars bleed together. Clean the printhead; raise darkness slightly; slow speed. See print too light · dirty printhead.
5. Data problems (not the printer)
- Invalid UPC/EAN check digit
- Excel dropped leading zeros, Excel barcodes
- Wrong symbology for the scanner (expecting UPC, got CODE128)
