Share Zebra label templates with your team (free)
What users report: the “good” template lives on one manager’s PC with ZebraDesigner installed. Other stations print old versions, wrong sizes, or nothing at all. Hiring season means more seats or more USB sticks.
Label design should not be a single-license bottleneck. Free browser design plus file export lets every station use the same layout without buying another desktop seat.
Team pattern: own the master in mylabelmaker → export JSON → store in shared drive / Notion / wiki → each station imports → Browser Print. Optional: document the size, DPI, and stock SKU next to the file.
Why seat-based designers fail small teams
- Only IT can install updates
- Version drift between Pro and Essentials files
- Mac packing laptops cannot open the Windows template
- Contractors need access for a weekend surge
Free multi-station workflow
- Create the master — correct size/DPI, native barcodes, clear name (“4x6-ship-to-v3”).
- Export JSON — portable design including structure — save & export.
- Publish once — shared folder with read-only masters + short changelog.
- Import on each PC/Mac — same browser app URL for everyone.
- Print locally — each station’s Browser Print talks to its Zebra (USB or network).
Network printers: Ethernet setup. Templates gallery: free templates.
Governance tips (so chaos does not return)
- One owner for master files; others request changes
- Version in the filename; archive old JSON
- Pair each template with stock size (e.g. Hybsk 4×6) — shop
- Scan-test after every master change before company-wide push
Variable data at team scale
Templates stay shared; data stays in Excel. Stations load the same layout and different CSV drops per shift — variable data guide · batch print.
Browser localStorage is per device/profile. Do not rely on “it is saved in my Chrome” as the company archive — always keep exported JSON in shared storage.
Sample shared-folder layout
/labels/masters/— current JSON only/labels/archive/— old versions/labels/data/— CSV drops for the day/labels/sop-print.pdf— size, stock, darkness notes
Onboarding a new station
- Install Browser Print; confirm printer name.
- Open mylabelmaker; import master JSON.
- Load sample CSV; print one label; scan it.
- Bookmark the app URL; deny random template edits without version bump.
Contractors and multi-warehouse
Emailing a JSON + CSV schema is enough for a 3PL to match your face design without VPN into a licensed desktop. They still use their own Zebra and Browser Print. You keep brand/layout control without issuing software seats.
