Zebra GX420d setup guide
The Zebra GX420d is a classic 4" direct thermal desktop still common in US shipping rooms and on the refurbished market. If you picked one up for 4×6 work, this guide gets you printing from a free browser designer.
What you need
- GX420d + USB (and power)
- 4×6 or other direct-thermal stock
- Windows or Mac computer
- Zebra Browser Print + mylabelmaker
Step 1 — Load media
- Open the media cover; insert the roll following the path diagram.
- Adjust guides; close cover; press Feed once.
- If labels skip, calibrate the gap sensor — calibration guide.
Step 2 — DPI and darkness
GX420d is typically 203 DPI. Set the same in software. Raise darkness if bars look gray. Fuzzy barcodes: DPI guide.
Step 3 — Browser Print
- Install Browser Print from the setup section.
- Restart the browser fully.
- Confirm the printer lists. Mac cert help: Browser Print setup.
Step 4 — Free labels
- Open app.mylabelmaker.com.
- Select the printer; set 4×6 (or your size) and 203 DPI.
- Design or load a template → print.
