Published: · 9 min read · Setup

The Zebra GX420d is a classic 4" direct thermal desktop still common in US shipping rooms and on the refurbished market. If you picked one up for 4×6 work, this guide gets you printing from a free browser designer.

What you need

Step 1 — Load media

  1. Open the media cover; insert the roll following the path diagram.
  2. Adjust guides; close cover; press Feed once.
  3. If labels skip, calibrate the gap sensor — calibration guide.

Step 2 — DPI and darkness

GX420d is typically 203 DPI. Set the same in software. Raise darkness if bars look gray. Fuzzy barcodes: DPI guide.

Step 3 — Browser Print

  1. Install Browser Print from the setup section.
  2. Restart the browser fully.
  3. Confirm the printer lists. Mac cert help: Browser Print setup.

Step 4 — Free labels

  1. Open app.mylabelmaker.com.
  2. Select the printer; set 4×6 (or your size) and 203 DPI.
  3. Design or load a template → print.
