Zebra printer paused, head open, or not ready

Published: · 3 min read · Troubleshooting

The printer is paused, the head looks closed but is not latched, or it says media out with a full roll. That is the printer refusing the job, not a software bug. Clear the status, then print one test from the free label maker so you are not fighting a stuck Windows spooler.

After the lights are green: Open https://app.mylabelmaker.com and print a simple test via Browser Print. No signup. You do not need ZebraDesigner.

What paused, head open, and media out mean

Clear it, then print one test

  1. Open the cover, reseat media, close the head until it latches.
  2. Press FEED to advance one clean label.
  3. Cancel pause on the printer panel.
  4. Cancel stuck jobs in the Windows or Mac print queue if you use drivers.
  5. Open https://app.mylabelmaker.com and send a one-label test.

Why Browser Print helps here

Browser Print can show printer status (head open, paper, pause) more clearly than a silent spooler. You fix the latch, see status clear, then print, without reinstalling ZebraDesigner.

Never force print with the head unlatched. You can damage the printhead or leave long unprinted liner on the floor.
