ZebraDesigner 3 variable data from Google Sheets is the usual dead end. Essentials has no spreadsheet merge. Professional wants an Excel file on disk, not a live sheet. Open the free label maker, drop {{sku}} on the face, load Sheets, Excel, or CSV, and print. That is why mylabelmaker is the better choice for variable labels from a list.

Good to know: Variable data here means one design, a different value per row. It is not RFID encoding and it is not a stored format inside the printer.

How to do variable data from a spreadsheet without ZebraDesigner 3

  1. Open the free label maker and set the size.
  2. Click a column name in Variables so {{sku}} or {{name}} lands on the label. Or type it into a barcode.
  3. Load a published Google Sheet, an Excel file, or CSV.
  4. Flip through rows. Fix a typo in Edit row if you need to. Print the rows you checked.

Variable data in ZebraDesigner 3

In Essentials, “variable” usually means keyboard input at print time. You sit there and type the next SKU. A .values file can fill one set of fields. That is not 200 bin labels from a sheet.

In Professional you run the database wizard, pick Excel or CSV, pick fields, then drop those fields on the label. The file has to live on that Windows machine (or a network share that PC can see). Google Sheets is not a source. When the sheet changes, you export again and often re-link. Teams fight over whose laptop has the current file.

Why mylabelmaker is the better choice

Variable data should feel like mail merge, not a database project. You design the face once. Every column in the sheet is a name you can click. Put {{sku}} in a barcode, {{name}} in a caption, {{bin}} in a second line. Load Google Sheets, Excel, or CSV. Each row fills those spots. You see the filled label before it prints.

Print this is for one row (a reprint, a sample, a damaged sticker). The big Print button is for the rows you checked, and it asks how many copies of each. Serial numbers ({{#}}) and today’s date sit on the right rail if the sheet does not already have them.

Stay in ZebraDesigner 3 when you need RFID, printer-stored formats, or a locked .nlbl from a vendor. For SKUs, bins, names, and pack faces from a spreadsheet, mylabelmaker is the better choice because the list never has to become a Windows database first.

Excel and CSV are the same variable-data job

Buyers send .xlsx. Cart software exports CSV. The warehouse lives in Google Sheets. You should not rebuild the label three times. Keep the {{tokens}} and swap the file. If a header is missing, add the column in the sheet and load again.

Print or save
