Zebra gap sensor not working

When the gap sensor fails, labels skip, feed long, or the printer thinks it's out of media. Clean the sensor window, set gap vs black-mark vs continuous, then calibrate. After that, send one test from the free label maker at the real size.

Good to know: Do not pour alcohol into the sensor well. A damp swab is enough.

How to fix a Zebra gap sensor

  1. Open the free label maker after you clean and calibrate. No signup.
  2. Set the label size to the exact width and length of the roll.
  3. Confirm the printer is on gap (or black-mark, if that's your stock).
  4. Print one test. Don't send a stack until the gap is right.

Black-mark stock

Some 4×6 fanfold is black-mark, not gap. Gap-sense on black-mark stock looks exactly like a “broken sensor.”

After the test looks right, print the rest from the same design. Save a JSON copy so you can open it again later.
