Why mylabelmaker is the ultimate app for a Zebra printer

If you own a Zebra printer, mylabelmaker is the ultimate app for that printer. You design the label on screen, load a spreadsheet when every box is different, copy the ZPL when you need the code, and print straight to the printer. It is free, and you do not sign up. You do not need one site to draw the label, another site to preview the code, and a Windows program to print.

You already have the printer. You need the label.

A Zebra printer prints ZPL. That is the printer language that starts with ^XA and ends with ^XZ. The roll and the gap still have to be right, but the missing piece for most people is a label they can design and then send. A typical setup is a 4x6 roll, a list of orders in Excel, and three tabs that each do one slice of the job. One tab designs a label and cannot see the printer. One tab shows a picture of ZPL and stops there. One tab is a Windows program that will not install on a Mac.

In mylabelmaker you set the label to the size of the stock, type the ship-from address, add a barcode, and add a logo if you have one. If the list is long, you upload it. Then you print, and the Zebra printer feeds one label after another. If a warehouse system wants the code in a file, you copy the ZPL from that same label. If a partner emails you a job they already wrote, you paste it, look at it, and print that job. Design, preview, and print stay in one app.

Design the label without learning the printer language first

You do not have to open a blank text file and type ^FO commands to make a shipping label. Open the app and you are looking at the label, at the real size. Drag the words. Make the name bigger. Add a CODE128, a UPC, an EAN, or a QR code. Drop a logo if you have one. There are built-in templates for shipping, warehouse bins, product stickers, name badges, and a lot of everyday jobs, so a blank square is optional.

Set the width and height to the roll you loaded. A 4x6 shipping label should be the real 4 by 6 inches, not a rectangle you guessed in a word processor. A custom size is fine when the sticker is an odd product size. Then set the DPI to the printer. Most desktop Zebra printers are 203. Some are 300. A few are 600. If the bars are drawn for the wrong density, the scanner will not read them and you will reprint the stack. Match the printer and the bars stay sharp.

You move the words while you are looking at the label a person will read. When it looks right, you copy the ZPL. You do not have to write that code by hand.

A list of orders should not mean a list of separate designs

Say the sheet has the order number in column A, the name in column B, and the street in column C. You should not type row 40 by hand. A Word mail merge is built for a page of address stickers, and the printer in front of you is a thermal roll that wants one label, then the next.

Upload the Excel file, or a CSV, or paste a Google Sheet you already published as CSV. A normal share link is not enough for Google. In the sheet, use File, Share, Publish to the web, and pick comma-separated values. Once the rows are in, click a column name and it lands on the label. The first row shows you what the label will say. Check the rows you want. Print this is the label on the screen, the one you are staring at. Print is the rows you checked, one label each, down the roll.

If the sheet does not already have serial numbers, you can number the run 001, 002, 003. If it does not have a date, you can put today's date on the label. Then you print. The names stay in this browser. There is no account storing your customer list.

You can copy the ZPL, or print ZPL someone else wrote

Sometimes you only need to print. Sometimes a warehouse system or another person asks for the code. You copy the ZPL from the label you designed, or you download it. It is the same label, so you do not redraw it in a text file and hope the barcode lands in the same spot.

A vendor may also send you a text file that already starts with ^XA. You do not have to rebuild that label to see if the barcode is on it. Open the ZPL viewer, paste the whole job through ^XZ, and look. If it is the job you want, print it. Print sends the code you pasted, not a screenshot of the preview. An odd command can look a little wrong on screen and still print correctly, because the printer gets your original job. If one command looks wrong and you want a second look, Labelary can draw it. Labelary does not print it.

How the label actually leaves the browser

The browser cannot talk to a USB printer by itself. Zebra solved that with Browser Print, a small free helper you install once from Zebra, not from us. On a Mac it sits in the menu bar. On Windows it sits in the system tray, and you can tell it to start when the computer starts. After you install it, quit the browser all the way and open it again. That restart is the step people skip, and it is the usual reason the printer list is empty.

Plug the printer in, or make sure it is on the network, and turn it on. Open the app. The printer should show in the list. Pick it. Print. The roll moves. If the list is empty, Browser Print is the first thing to check. Is the icon running? Did you restart the browser? Safari is fussier than Chrome: it needs the local trust pages open in the same window, and a private window does not share that trust. You can also print from this computer when you want a proof on a normal printer, or a PDF to show someone, before you spend the thermal stock. PNG and PDF downloads are there for the same reason. The Zebra itself wants the ZPL, and that is what Print sends.

Labelary shows you a picture. Then you still have to print.

Pasting ZPL into Labelary and seeing a sharp picture is useful. Labelary stops there. It does not let you design the label by dragging. It does not load your Excel file. It does not send the job to the Zebra printer on your desk. You paste code, their server draws it, and you download a PNG or a PDF. The code leaves your browser so they can draw that picture. When you still need the label on the roll, you have to leave and use something else.

That is why mylabelmaker is the better choice if you use a Zebra printer. You preview, design, load the spreadsheet, copy the ZPL, and print in the same app. Use Labelary when another program needs their API, or when one odd command looks wrong and you want their picture as a check. You do not need it to print.

ZebraDesigner only runs on Windows

ZebraDesigner is Zebra's own software. Essentials is a free download, and it only runs on Windows. It will not merge a spreadsheet, which is the job most small shops actually have. Professional can use Excel that lives on that PC, and you pay for Professional. It does not pull a live Google Sheet. We do not host Zebra's installer. A lot of people use mylabelmaker because they are on a Mac, or because they do not want a heavy designer for 80 pack labels. You open the app in the browser. The label is there. After Browser Print is running, the printer is there too. You do not install an editor, and you do not create an account before you print or download the file.

How to print the first label

1. Open https://app.mylabelmaker.com. No signup.
2. Install Zebra Browser Print once if you have not already, then restart the browser. Leave the helper running.
3. Set the label size to the roll, and set 203, 300, or 600 DPI to match the printer.
4. Design the label, or start from a template. Add the words and a barcode or QR code.
5. If every label changes, upload Excel or CSV, or a Google Sheet published as CSV. Click the column name onto the label. Check the rows you want.
6. Pick the Zebra printer in the list and print. Copy or download the ZPL if you also need the code.

If the job already exists as ZPL, skip the design. Open the viewer, paste it, and print that code.

What this app does not do

We do not sell postage. The stamp still comes from USPS, UPS, or your shop. We print the label you designed. We do not encode RFID, and we do not open an old ZebraDesigner .nlbl file. Letter sheet templates are already in the app if you need a page of names or addresses on paper, and more Avery, DYMO, and Brother templates are on the way.

Save a JSON file when you want this label again, spreadsheet included. You open that file later, the printer is still in the list, and you print again. You do not rebuild the label.

Can I design a label and print it straight to my Zebra?

Yes. Design it in the browser, pick the printer, and print. You need Zebra Browser Print installed once so the browser can see the printer. The app is free and does not ask you to sign up.

Why is this a better Zebra app than Labelary?

Labelary only previews ZPL. It shows a picture and can give you a PNG or a PDF. It does not design the label, load Excel, or print to your Zebra printer. mylabelmaker does those in one app, and it prints the real ZPL.

Can I print a whole spreadsheet to a Zebra printer?
