How to generate ZPL from a label design

You can design a label online and generate ZPL without writing commands by hand. Build the label in the free label maker, then copy ZPL from Options. If each row in Excel or Google Sheets is a different label, each row can become its own job. Open the ZPL viewer when you need to see pasted code as a picture, then print on a Zebra.

Good to know: We create ZPL from your design. We don't turn pasted ZPL back into boxes you can drag. The viewer is a picture. Print still sends the pasted job.

How to generate ZPL from a label design

  1. Open the free label maker and set size and DPI.
  2. Place text, a barcode, a QR, a logo. Load Excel or Google Sheets if rows should change.
  3. Click Options, then Copy ZPL or Download ZPL.
  4. To check code someone else sent, open the ZPL viewer, paste it, look at the picture, and print if the Zebra is ready.

Writing ^FO by hand is slow, and one missed comma wastes labels. Design first, then generate ZPL, so the picture you approved is what the printer gets.

Why you'd design a label first, then generate ZPL

The app draws at the DPI you set. Barcodes are real barcodes, not a photo of a font. Copy ZPL puts the full job on the clipboard, graphics included. Download a .zpl file if you'd rather drop it in a folder. Keep a JSON file too (the file this app opens) so a teammate can change the words next week while a server prints tonight's code.

Generate ZPL for every row in Excel or Google Sheets

Load the sheet. Put the SKU column on a barcode. Preview a row. Copy ZPL for that row, or print the rows you checked from the app. You didn't export a PNG and hope another tool traces it into printer code. You designed the label. The code follows.

Keep the editable file when the ZPL leaves

Send ZPL to the print queue. Keep JSON for yourself. JSON still has the text boxes, the barcode, and the spreadsheet. If a SKU changes next month, you edit here and generate again. Set DPI before you copy. A 300 DPI printer wants 300 in the maker, not a stretched 203 picture. The thermal size calculator on the tools hub turns inches into dots if you like to check.

View pasted ZPL, then print, in the same app

Sometimes the code already exists: an old dump, a vendor sample. Paste it in the ZPL viewer. See a picture. Download a PNG of that picture if you need to show someone. Print sends the original paste through Browser Print.

ZebraDesigner is Windows. Many ZPL sites only paste code and never let you draw. Here you draw, generate, view, and print without paying. RFID and formats stored inside the printer still belong in Zebra's own tools.

When you're ready to print or save

If a Zebra is plugged in, print from the browser. Set 203, 300, or 600 DPI to match the printer. On a regular printer, choose Print from this computer. You can also download a PNG, a PDF, or the ZPL code a Zebra reads. Save a JSON file if you want to open this label again later, spreadsheet included.

Design it. Copy the ZPL.
