Click a column name onto a label

You do not have to type {{sku}} by hand. In the free label maker, open Variables and click a column name. If nothing is selected, a text box lands on the label. If you already clicked text, a barcode, a QR, or a table cell, that column goes there. Excel, CSV, and Google Sheets all work. That is why mylabelmaker is the better choice when ZebraDesigner 3 makes you wire database fields.

Good to know: The first row of the file must be a header. Clicking sku only works if a column is actually named sku.

How to put a spreadsheet column on the label

  1. Open the free label maker and load Excel, CSV, or a published Google Sheet.
  2. Open Variables on the right. You will see the column names.
  3. Click a name with nothing selected to drop a new text box. Or select a barcode first, then click the name.
  4. Preview two rows. Print this, or print the rows you checked.

How ZebraDesigner 3 wants you to place fields

Professional’s database wizard creates fields, then you drag those fields onto the label. Miss a field and you go back to the wizard. Essentials has no fields from a sheet at all. Google Sheets never appears as a source.

Why mylabelmaker is the better choice

The spreadsheet already named the columns. Click the name. That is the whole trick. You can still type {{sku}} if you like. Most people click. Load Excel, CSV, or Google Sheets first so the names exist. Then place them on text, bars, QR, or a table cell.

Nothing selected: you get a new text box. That is how you build a face from a sheet without drawing every box first. Something selected: the column fills that object. A barcode should get the SKU, not the product name. Click the barcode, then click sku.

This is the same for every data source. You are not learning one method for Excel and another for Sheets. ZebraDesigner 3 makes the source a project. Here the source is a file or a URL. For many labels from a list, mylabelmaker is the better choice because placing a column takes one click.

Print after the columns are on the face

Flip rows under the label. Edit row searches and lets you fix a cell. Print this is the current label. Print is every checked row, with a copies question. Unchecked rows do not print and do not show on the stepper.

Print or save

Zebra thermal: print from the browser with Browser Print at the printer’s DPI. Everyone else: download PNG, JPEG, SVG, PDF, or ZPL. JSON keeps the editable master, including the list you loaded.
